Coral Russell – Confidences (Confianzas)

Confidences (Confianzas)

This tango song is by the Gotan Project, a music group that gained attention by putting a new spin on tango music. I took Tango lessons for months and fell in love with the music and the dance and the shoes, even though I’m a horrible dancer and have a hard time wearing high heels.

I loved it so much that I had to make a character that loved to Tango and her fantasy was to run away to Argentina to study and live that life. This song seemed to fit Roberta’s character because she’s not doing anything that will change the world around. She just wants to escape.

The lyrics:

He sits at the table and writes.
with this poem you will not take power, he says
you will not make revolution, he says
nor with thousands of verses will you make revolution, he says
and what’s more, these verses won’t make peons, teachers, or carpenters live better, eat better, or he himself eat, live better.
Not even for wooing a woman can they be used.
He won’t make money with them
he won’t get into the movies free with them
they won’t give him clothes for them
He won’t get tobacco or wine with them
nor parrots, nor scarves, nor boats, nor bulls, nor umbrellas will he get from them.
if it were up to them the rain would get him wet.
He wont reach forgiveness nor grace because of them
with this poem you will not take power, he says
you will not make revolution, he says
nor with thousands of verses will you make revolution, he says
He sits at the table and writes.
